For the 23% was founded by Dielle Charon, a former social worker with big ambitions but no clear roadmap to entrepreneurship.
Coming from a family with no business owners, Dielle lacked examples to follow or a blueprint to guide her path...
Seeking mentorship, she asked a successful entrepreneur if they knew any women of color who had built thriving businesses.
They gave her just one name
That moment left a lasting impact—not because she doubted her own potential, but because it made one thing clear:
Women of color entrepreneurs were underrepresented, under-supported, and often navigating business alone.
As Dielle built her own business, she quickly realized that the strategies, mindset shifts, and challenges for women of color were fundamentally different from what mainstream entrepreneurship spaces taught.
Yet, women of color were launching businesses at record-breaking rates.
According to the 2019 American Express State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, women their companies generated only 23% of the total revenue from women-owned firms.
Despite their entrepreneurial drive, systemic barriers—such as limited access to funding, networks, and tailored business education—kept their businesses from scaling at the same rate as others.
The traditional advice wasn’t designed with them in mind.
